AT THE DEVON COUNTY SHOW

FROM THE EXPRESS & ECHO':
For the third year running, an exhibition of paintings giving an insight of the life of an agricultural show is being staged at the Devon County Show, May 16th - May 18th, 2002.
Last year the show's artist-in-residence, Xanthe Mosley, captured the beauty of the animals and the dedication of their handlers as she worked during the day and well into the night.
"Show animals are such great posers!" she said. "They are trained to stand still and look magnificent, so they were wonderful to sketch and photograph."
Xanthe will be making lightning sketches as she wends her way through thousands of visitors and exhibitors.
"At night, the show is quite a different place. There is a glorious spirit amongst those still on the site, and as the hour gets late many handlers take to their sleeping bags in the straw beside their animals."
This year the displays of Xanthe's work will be more extensive. She will have her own exhibition space near the craft marquee and there will be smaller displays of her work in the Country Landowners Assocation marquee and in the Members' Enclosure. She hopes that people will come and visit, and perhaps find their likeness or that of a familiar animal, in amongst her work.
